Federal crimes can include a variety of different offenses; some of the more common include crimes involving illegal drugs. Federal Drug Schedule

Illegal and controlled substances according to the federal government are divided into five different categories called “schedules” and the penalties that you will face for a federal drug crime will depend on the schedule under which the substance involved in your case falls.

Schedule I
The first category of drug encompasses those with no recognized medical use and a high potential for abuse. These can include the following substances among others:

  • Heroin
  • LSD
  • Marijuana
  • Ecstasy
  • Peyote

Schedule II
This schedule includes those less potential for abuse than Schedule I, but still a high potential, and have some very limited recognized medical use. These substances include:

  • Cocaine
  • Methamphetamines
  • Oxycodone
  • Ritalin

Schedule III
These substances have recognized medical use, but have some potential for physical and psychological dependence with use. They also have significant potential for abuse, yet less than Schedule I or II. These drugs can include:

  • Vicodin
  • Tylenol With Codeine
  • Anabolic Steroids
  • Testosterone

Schedule IV
Schedule four drugs have a low potential for abuse with highly recognized medical use, and can include any of the following substances among others:

  • Xanax
  • Valium
  • Ambien
  • Talwin

Schedule V
Lastly, these drugs have the lowest potential for abuse and generally consist of prescriptions containing limited amounts of certain narcotics. These drugs can include any of the following:
